The continuing Gargorian deep space initiative has hit a minor snag, figuring out how to optimize nutrition and atmospheric filtering for prolonged space flight with minimal maintenance and low power requirements. Thankfully, a mycologist has come forward with information on a rare subterranean fungus which may serve as the perfect starting point to bioengineer what they need.
The problem: no sample or genetic mapping of the rare fungus exists in orbit. The only solution is to recover a sample, and that means a planetside expedition poking around in dark caves.
What could possibly go wrong?
