Fight Club?

So. I've been thinking something. A lot of people come to Vaxia because they hear the words role play, when MOST people hear the words role play, people usually come to the thought of DnD, WoW, Guild Wars, and other fun things. And because of that situation, we run into this wall that we all know and love:

Everyone wants to f***g fight, right? So here's a lovely proposition for ya'll. I know it's summer and so ya gots ur fun bbq stuff to do but bare with me here. We can even wait until Fall/Winter area. I don't really mind when. My point is we should have a set up PvP situation for the fact that everyone loves to combat.

Now presenting: THE CAVUM FIGHT LEAGUE: PRESENTED BY IRIS, A YOUNG MARTIAL ARTIST FROM BETH BOW, NOW RESIDING IN TOWN GREEN. WOULDN'T YOU RATHER BE BASHING IN EACH OTHERS FACES THAN NOT? NO WEAPONS. JUST YOUR STATS AND SKILLS.

Now, I know we run into this thing where people might run into an issue due to the fact that people have more combat based skills than others, and really I don't know how to get around that. And I don't want to get people upset because the fights aren't fair. I want this to be more for a fun thing rather than an actual attempt at prizes BUT prizes were on the mind as well. And if we could figure out a way, maybe we could make it happen? That's what I'd need help in. Either way, I think this would be a cool idea. A fight league for friends to brawl for scrap cash and to get some RP here and there. People could come watch and have drinks after. Plus the Cavum could use some love.

The problem

The biggest problem I can see is that there are no weapons allowed. I'm not really sure how many people have unarmed fighting skills. Off the top of my head I can only think of about six. Some of whom are far stronger than others.

Also of Note:

The cavum is owned by others not Iris...so you would need an SH who could NPC a temporary manager to run it and the cavum would want a take for it for people coming in and would likely want a down payment from someone - who is paying to rent the cavum for this?

The cavum is also maintained for anyone in the ring really not just the unarmed fighters...but unarmed vs axe is no issue...magic vs sword is no issue...

The cavum had quite a lovely history back in the day of having no qualms at all if people happened to remove limbs from each other in the ring - and you were left limbless to live your life with your stubbies...

Tournament time!

So there's a yearly tradition around New Year's that pretty closely mirrors this, and I love the idea of a "Christmas-in-July" version (even though it's August now) :)

Borrowing from Stormhold's version:
1) Allow weapons, but switch out for wooden versions that the Cavum staff have on hand. If you're a dagger fighter, pick up a wooden dagger. Same stats, but getting to negative your LIF total doesn't kill you, you're just knocked out what-good. Also the Cavum already employs healers, in case anything goes really sideways.
2) Create a tournament bracket, and pair up fighters initially for closely-matched combats based on their highest combat skill (the SHs organizing can draw up the bracket once they know who's coming)
3) Use NPCs to fill any gaps in the bracket
4) FIGHT!
5) ...also have small activities for the spectators and folks who want to use the scene to hawk their wares, etc.

I love the idea :) From past experience, it definitely helps to have multiple SHs to run the numbers and coordinate the crowd, depending on how many sign-ups there are for the sesh.

We could do something similar with magical combatants, even - the numbers average out. Perhaps first round, only mage-on-mage and fighter-on-fighter, and then let things mix up further into the bracket?

EDIT: Just to echo what Sin said, the Cavum has always had a history (at least, since I've been aware of it) of no-holds-barred fighting, so this tourney might be a way to draw in a new crowd to try and get more regular betters at the more grisly night fights :3 But that's just me thinking out loud.

I really really like the

I really really like the Stormhold tournament - not that I've ever participated - but more that I try to get an SH to let me run a betting pool every year....

Having regular fight nights at the Cavum sounds pretty fun to me, it's not like the Cavum isn't already doing that with their fighting pit.

That actually might draw Sarav now especially if one name is on the contender's list... laughs Bast, you can probably guess who. Otherwise, like Seryi, never participated in one. Toon's had no desire to beat or be beaten up, well not that sort of setting. Knightly tourneys, they'd do. Anything goes, not so much.

Well..

That's why I posted it here. I needed ideas and whatnot for a general thought on what should happen.

I figured if everyone was down with it we could figure out a way around renting the area. I already know about the tournament but once a year? I kinda thought people would want to fight more. We could allow "dummy" versions of weapons so no one would be critically injured or killed as easily. An opponent could concede if they thought the fight was un-winnable as well. Obviously Iris doesn't OWN the Cavum but somebody has to set it up, don't they? Plus renting could be worked around because the Fight Nights are bringing in business possibly? Just a thought.

And I know I would need SH's around, I thought that was obvious. Truthfully, I don't know how to work around magic users but if you've got ideas, I'm a very flexible and well listening person. I think this would be a good, fun thing to have maybe not every night, but every so often. If it gets "voted" or gets a majority ruling of "I would participate" I would like to get the ball rolling.

The Cavum has a long history of being the place to go for public fighting, the have had things from the rather brutal and bloody gladiatorial type fights - where yes people died, as well as more like boxing and brawling matches where no one was killed, but people got to punch the heck out of them.

That information has disappeared to gods know where, but there used to be a couple of fighting clubs/guilds as you described awas, where people that liked brawling could drop their c name. Of course there was different kinds so people could partake of which flavor of fight club they wished too.

There are also less...um safe ;) .... venues that host fighting that is not the cavum as well.

Getting something like this has been on my to do list anyways, as there has been a desire for it anyways (so sorry boblet, saravein can't go beat up quin).

So if Iris desires to set up his own little group you can get that started and stuff and I will work around my work load and schedule to see what could be done.

Magic can be not allowed, or be required to 'power down' their spells so they don't kill anyone by accident.

Magic should be powered down,

Magic should be powered down, because not allowed at all would be unfair and discriminate against fighting styles.

I will post in IC a flyer soon, I also have quite the hefty workload to work around, but I'd like to make it happen. :)

I would recommend securing a venue before posting flyers, be it the Cavum or other wise.
Then once that is secure that would allow for more resources to attract fighters and an audience.

Bast...

"Obviously Iris doesn't OWN the Cavum but somebody has to set it up, don't they? Plus renting could be worked around because the Fight Nights are bringing in business possibly? Just a thought.

And I know I would need SH's around, I thought that was obvious."

Time and time again AWAS takes it upon himself to try to make me feel like absolute shit just like the other day on limbo.

AWAS asked a question...
I gave my two cents...
AWAS responds by being insulting and treating me like an utter dumbass for answering his question...he is absolutely incapable of treating me like a human being or a member of Vaxia...
I am honestly tired of it and I do NOT have to deal with being treated that way time and time again...
AWAS is a prime example of why I left Vaxia in the first place with his continual personal attacks against people OOC in limbo and the forums...

I won't lie. I was wondering

EDIT: Ah, you got in a post before I saw it. I'll leave my post as before. It was written only after seeing Bast's post.

I won't lie. I was wondering the same.

Seriously, no offense meant to you Sin! The best I can figure, you maybe meant "And I know I would need SH's around, I thought that was obvious."

I can certainly imagine a snide tone to that if I want to, but I wouldn't assume it. I reckon it was a pretty innocuous comment, or at least that's how I read it. Shrug

So Bast and I might be

So Bast and I might be missing some context, I just chatted up Kirsten and I guess she's already asking about mediation, so I'll leave that discussion to her.

It's my dearest hope that you and aWaS are able to reconcilliate! I don't wanna see you so unhappy. :(

Well. Uh.

Sin, I really really didn't mean anything like that, I promise. I was actually agreeing with a lot of what you said. I apologize if the way I type comes out to be sarcastic or rude, but truthfully, it's not intended to be that way. So I'm sorry if I make you feel that way.

I literally, was taking what everyone said and was just responding to it, with what I thought was a somber tone. I didn't mean anything else but what I said.
