A Harrowing Harvest

Forums:

Saga:

Characters involved:

On the eve of a harvest auction, four intrepid folk found themselves in different parts of the grounds set up near the Ramsalon Farmlands. Declan, perusing for things he might be able to bring back to his bar, finds some curious, foreign fruit that he inquires whether it could make a good jelly or jam. Nearby, Sephtis was asking about children's preferences in fruits, along with whether there were any particularly over-ripened fruits for her picking. Jessica and Moreaaiwe honed in on some seasonal cider, getting close just as things began to take a chilling turn.

Declan, gesturing toward some fruit while talking with the vendor, is slapped by a vine as his hand passes over. The stall-minder, perplexed, was unsure what to say to him or Sephtis; at the cider stand, a pavilion close by lost a strut, creating a small commotion as pretty particular pesky produce from Candenord was beginning to lash out at auction-goers. Jessica moved to assist with getting that stand back on its pegs, while Moreaaiwe worked some clairvoyance to find several past symbols that were related to things now happening in her present time. From there, Declan searched for direct clues to the source, while Sephtis kept eye out for other mischievous vines; eventually, her supplication helped subdue a handful of rotten-seeming stocks. Jessica worked her fire magic to decimate the tendrils in her area, while Mo worked her own wiles to connect the dots of the past, while simultaneously bringing some respite to the uneasy throng.

Jessica was one of the first to discover that handling some of the affected fruits or vegetables leaves a bit of a numb sensation where it touches the skin; Declan helps with some of the sorting out just as the rest of the citizenry begins to collect any suspect fruit and centralize it into the auction square for an impromptu bonfire. Moreaaiwe divines an odd sensation of ultra-concentration, while Sephtis keeps an eye out for any odd produce that gets dropped or left behind on its way to the bonfire. But, at the center of that, the assembled fruit starts melting into a contiguous blob; its condition is supported by the left-behind bits that leave splotches of rot on the ground where they rested. Soon, Moreaaiwe sends Scaramouche to track down an old acquaintance from the city, tied to an event at the docks a year prior. While waiting, Declan attempts to copy a leafy symbol he sees on some of the crates hauling the Candenordian goods, with some struggle. Sephtis gets to smashing the remainder she can identify.

Soon, Jessica noticed that the efforts to start the bonfire were falling flat, and, with the help of some boosting magic from Mo, helped light the pyres underneath the oozing blob. Sephtis built upon her previous work with the strange portals, opening one in the center of the mass so it would collapse on itself and abate, somewhat. Declan managed to get the images right in his head, and makes a good enough artistic replica to take with him for further research. And, sooner than expected, Wareish the Druid appeared, brought on by his own findings and the eventual news of what was taking place. He honed in to their exact spot with Scaramouche's help, and a short discussion ensues while Sephtis and Jess finish more of the rotten mess in the square.

With hints at a lingering entity bent on decaying things to an unknown end, Wareish strikes up a dinner deal with the group to put together notes and decide a future course. Witherbark's spite is starting to heat up in time for winter - how hard could it hit Ramsalon to compound with the cold and snow?

All gain +5 with the Ramsalon Populace.

If a kind ASH2 - Full SH would be so kind as to add the XP and rep for the characters (well, more than one, due to not being able to edit your own Cs with this stuff), I am grateful. Thank you for the in-house feedback, and I look forward to continuing this saga a little earlier than a year from now. Stay tuned!

Witherbark's Spite: A Harrowing Harvest

Forums:

As summer in the Ramsalonian area winds down toward autumn, the farmers look forward to harvesting their crops to sustain their livelihood. Though, it seems that some farms on the fringe may have gotten more than they bargained for in accepting some unknown seeds from an undocumented source. What transpires may yet present a danger to the local food supply for this year.

Edit - Flyers will be posted throughout Ramsalon, inviting citizens to attend the harvest auction. This event is advertised as a means for those who wish to obtain seasonal gains not gone to larger markets; at the same time, it allows the farming community to request help for the remainder of the harvest season.

A light bit of investigation, with possible fighting and/or necessary skill use to avert crisis. Character death/serious injury possible, but not a major probability.

Slow-post over a roughly two week period with daily to every-other-day posts, based on folks' busy times.

OOC Edit - I should be technically able to run this now, start date still the same. Will update with the location on the day it starts. Counting five so far, any other takers?

Cavum Fight Night

Forums:

Saga:

Characters involved:

In a pair of dramatic matches, Sephtis and Brigannia each held their respective opponents to the full 5 rounds. Sephtis, trying out her skills in the Pit for the first time, went up against a local overdog (and complete showboat) in Norvar, whose showy style wasn't exactly on display when Blackout appeared on the Wheel of Calamity, casting the arena into darkness.

Neither fighter had much trouble with the dark, though Sephtis found Norvar's falchion troubling enough. She landed a few solid hits with her magical decay, sending Norvar running from the arena after he landed his most impressive strike of the match. The taunting between the fighters was enough to garner cheers of "less talking more thacky!" from the ring above, where Briggy cheered on both fighters without much distinction before being called down to the Pit herself.

Squaring off against an old gnome named Zortet, Briggy sized her up quickly and saw that she was more than she appeared. Both fighters proved sharp-eyed, avoiding hits on either end. When Zortet went on the offensive, however, she landed one key strike to Briggy's sternum, nearly dropping the woman in one hit. Reprising her showing in the tournament, Briggy powered through, and managed to land a couple more blows before the fight finally went to the judges, where they narrowly awarded Zortet the win 38 to 28.

Despite the losses, Sephtis made more than a few friends for having taught Norvar a lesson about vanity, while Briggy and Zortet shared drinks and stories long into the night.

Seaside Shenanigans

Forums:

Characters involved:

After losing two shipments to reports of 'ghost pirates,' the Ivory Pearl Co. decided to take on additional security for the seemingly cursed voyage from Ramsalon to Arpaksad.

Eanraig kept close to the captain during the voyage while Brigannia largely stayed aloft, enjoying the feeling of being at sea again. Quinnae and Sephtis kept more to themselves during the voyage, which was rather agreeable to the crew at large.

A couple of days into their journey on a moonlit night, they spotted a strange glow on the waves, and a fog rolling in supernaturally fast. Moments later, ghostly shades appeared on deck, advancing on the crew. The clang of metal filled the air as the new security team helped repel the boarders, with Quinn getting in a masterful strike on one and Sephtis bashing another into the water. Eanraig did his best to use his silver tongue to do the fencing, and it worked well enough, confusing the ghost pirate advancing on him enough to help him avoid getting stabbed. Briggy wasn't so lucky, for while her ghost rattle had proven that the ghosts were merely illusions, their blades bit just like the real thing, and she took a solid hit for her troubles.

Hoping to dispel the nonsense, Quinnae literally rose above it, spotting the real pirate ship resting outside the fog, camouflaged to blend in with the sea at night and currently taking on their stolen cargo by the boatload. The others continued to rally against the pirates on deck, with Sephtis dropping on halfway through a portal while Eanraig gave Briggy some much-needed healing. Briggy, having heard noise from below, headed into the cargo hold, where she found a trio of pirates trying to make off with the last of their goods and laying a powder trail to set the whole ship ablaze once they left.

While Quinn explained the situation and portal'd over to the pirate vessel to start making short work of their many illusionists, Briggy and Eanraig dealt with the pirates below deck and Sephtis helped the two she'd clobbered earlier get back safely aboard, realizing that the illusions had tricked the crew into fighting one another instead. With their crew right behind her, Quinn was a bit disappointed to see the pirates wisely surrender. The Ivory Pearl Co. captain seized the ship and ordered the pirates tied up while Quinn went to help their sister vessel avoid any further trouble.

In the end, both ships were saved and, with the exception of two pirate mages, no one was killed this voyage. The clever pirates were delivered to the constabulary in Arpaksad, and the new security team given their reward and a quick portal home to Ramsalon.
